ROCHESTER, New York – In a big surprise to everyone in Los Angeles, Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage reveals in a new interview that he is moving to the Rochester, New York area. He tells the magazine that he is “tired of the L.A. lifestyle” and is looking for a big change in life.

“I’m just tired of the L.A. lifestyle and the fake people, honestly, and I feel like, at this point in my life, I’d rather just live in a place full of real, genuine people. I’ve been to Rochester a few times over the years and the people there are real… they’re genuine, and yeah every community has its problems but the people there are good, decent people and they care about their community. Those are the things I find most important in deciding where to live.  I might hang out somewhere further south during the winter though!” Cage said with a laugh.

“I’m not retiring, I’m just looking for a change in life and I think I’ve found that in Rochester,” Cage reassured fans. Let us know what you think in the comments section below especially if you’re a resident of the Rochester, New York area.

That’s awesome! I’ve been born and raised here. Honestly can’t imagine moving away. He must have been to Wegmans grocery store while visiting and that’s what sealed the deal 😄

  2. Nope, had to be the Garbage Plate!

  3. Welcome, Rochester is an amazing place to live!

  4. A culinary wasteland, and Wegman’s is no big deal. A good public market, but no sun.

    • Culinary wasteland?
Revelry, Two Vine, Pane Vino, Tapas, Black and Blue, Rooney’s, Park Avenue Pub, Ristorante Lucano, Havana Cabana, Tony D’s, Trata, Lento, Tournedos, The Cub Room, Edibles, City Grill, Panzari’s, Bacco’s, Tavern 58, Grappa, Hogan’s Hideaway, Victoire, Mr. Dominic’s, Hattie’s at Strathallan, The Gate House and Salena’s at Village Gate. And of course there’s always Nick Tahou’s. And those are just the Rochester a Restaurants. Tons of great suburban restaurants too.

  5. That’s so awesome. Lived here for about 23 years and is such a great place. Can’t wait to one day maybe run into him :)

  9. Rochester area has a lot to offer. From theater, sports, to nearby wine country and the finger lakes. A quick trip to Toronto is just across the lake.

Welcome to Rochester. I’ve lived here my entire life. I had bouneed around a bit but always came back home. This city is unique. It’s filled with creativity. Most of my life long friends are very talented artists and musicians here. The local music scene is unlike anywhere else I’ve lived. Live , local and original music. Check out these venues to meet and hear the best musicians in town, Skylark Lounge, Monty’s Krown, The Firehouse Saloon, The Bug Jar and Dinosaur BBQ. They are all located in the Downtown area and an area we call The Greater Monroe Ave Area! Great places to hear some great music. Filled with intelligent, talented and friendly neighborhood people. There are also some really good art galleries filled with our area artists. Every single one of my friends either plays in a band at these joints or owns one of them. The Monroe Ave area is definitely the place to go if you want to meet the coolest people here and eat some really good food as well. The suburbs are boring. Enjoy!!

  18. Yeah Nicholas, grab a Harley at Cycle stop and we can go riding…

  19. I live in a beautiful small city SE of Rochester called Canandaigua. It is on one of the Finger Lakes. It is absolutely gorgeous here. This is where I would recommend. I have lived in many areas of Rochester and I settled here and have been here for 20 years now. Welcome to the area.

  20. mr cage, if you see this I will show you around the ‘real rochester’ i write a punk zine,dj old rock 45’s, do a late night radio show and draw comics, lets hang,

  21. Ok well Nicholas or can i call you Nick… I’m single and would love to show you around. Lots of beautiful parks and cool sights to see. Im sure you’ll enjoy it here.

  22. You will love Rochester and I hope you choose to live in one of our wonderful city neighborhoods such as mine, which is Park Ave. Wonderful food, easy walking, lots of culture. I am a Real Estate Agent and would be happy to assist you in finding the perfect home (even if you choose the suburbs!). Welcome to Rochester!

  23. this is exciting news we welcome you here with open arms Mr. Cage :) Welcome to Rochester, NY!

  24. Rochester public market. You will love it.

  25. My Husband says to remind you to try Nick Tahos for a garbage plate.

  26. A lot of Greats came to Rochester. The Flour City, The Jazz scene ,the Public Market. The Lilac Festival these are a few of my favorite things. I’m from Spencerport,New York and have also lived in Tennessee, Washington, and California. But to experience the 4 seasons, the festivals and the family and the Community that exist in Rochester is over all the best place to live. Good luck and enjoy. The west side of the river is the best side ! Now I live in the North Country at the 1000 islands.

  27. Good luck check out the 1000 islands for Blues On The Bay and Rocking Weekend And Pirates Weekend in Alexandria Bay New York. You can stay 24 miles up the Rd in Ogdensburg a Lil quieter. But a lot of fun

Have lived in the Rochester/ Canandaigua area all of my life. Beautiful people, beautiful lakes, beautiful wine and of course Wegmans. Whats not too like. I agree though head south or west for the winter.

  30. Culinary wasteland is correct, Ron, although, with the money he has, I’m sure he can get decent food. For the rest of us poor folk, forget it. Hope he doesn’t love sushi cause he’ll have to take a trip to NYC to some! Wegman’s is over priced and over-hyped. It’s a grocery store monopoly between them & Tops. I moved to Rochester 6 years ago & disliked the area from the get-go. I found the people to be “clicky”; those from the West side looked down on those from the East side and those in the outer burbs were considered “hicks who lived in the sticks”. Most of the city is a ghetto with loads of violent crimes. There are plenty of nicer places he could have chosen. I think he’s nuts to move there, but hey, I left & am so happy I did! Let’s hope his notoriety can do something positive for the area.
